Our Lutheran heritage
When Lutheran immigrants settled this part of the United States, they acted on their faith by establishing Lutheran institutions to serve those in their midst. Churches, hospitals, colleges, social welfare organizations, financial services organizations and seminaries were built to live out the Gospel's mandate to serve others.
Current leaders of Twin Cities Lutheran organizations sought ways that they might collectively strengthen the work of the church, broaden understanding of the contribution of Lutherans to the needs and hopes of the broader community, and discover ways in which they could join together in new ways for the well-being of the community and those they serve.
In 2000 they agreed to make long-term institutional commitments of human, financial and knowledge-based assets to serve as resources for this new collaboration. Their current effort to "seek the welfare of the city" is based on the principle that more can be accomplished collectively for the city when people and organizations come together to pursue common goals.
Faith in the City was officially inaugurated May 1, 2002.
