MINNEAPOLIS (Jan. 17, 2008) – The Reverend Deborah K. Hutterer, Pontiac, Ill., has been named executive director of Faith in the City, an alliance of Lutheran institutions working to improve the quality of life for Twin Cities residents.
Hutterer will coordinate and promote the current initiatives of the five-year-old alliance. The ongoing projects include the Augsburg Fairview Academy for Health Careers, focusing on health careers for underrepresented populations; the Personal Finance Center, designed to help build financial and literacy assets; and the Wellness Connection of Minnesota, designed to offer services for refugee families. In addition, she will assist in launching new initiatives for the coalition. Hutterer succeeds Matthew Anderson-Stembridge.
Paul C. Pribbenow, Ph.D., chair of Faith in the City and president of Augsburg College, Minneapolis, one of the Faith in the City partners said, “Hutterer is ideally positioned to broaden the reach and impact of the faith network. Her experience in ministry, higher education, and business will help her manage and enhance current Faith in the City initiatives, strengthen alliances outside the partnership, and develop new projects that will benefit the people of Minneapolis and St. Paul.”
Prior to joining Faith in the City, Hutterer served as pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Pontiac, Ill. She also served as a pastoral intern at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Minneapolis.
From 1994 to 2002, Hutterer was employed by Augsburg College in a variety of positions. Her work included event planning, communications, alumni/parent relations. She also served as the coordinator for the Nobel Peace Prize forum.
From 1976 to 1994, she owned several small businesses, held positions in insurance sales and service and coordinated volunteer and parish activities for a Lutheran congregation.
Active in the community, Hutterer has served as secretary of the Northeast Conference of Illinois, as treasurer of the Scholastic Enrichment Corporation, as a member of the Evangelism Strategy Initiative for Central Southern Illinois, and as vice president of the Pontiac Area Ministerium Association.
Hutterer received her bachelor’s degree from Augsburg College, Minneapolis, and her master of divinity degree from Luther Seminary, St. Paul, Minn.
Faith in the City developed at the initiative of Lutheran executives who had the core belief that if the large, Twin Cities Lutheran organizations worked together, they would have a greater impact on the community than they could by continuing in singular pursuits. Faith in the City was officially inaugurated May 1, 2002.
